The 100 Club was set up, in its present format, in 1985. The cost to enter has remained at £12 per member, per annum, and can either be paid in cash or by an annual standing order.
The Club has never reached the 100 member level and this remains the target. However, it has successfully run for the last 22 years with membership varying between 50 and 60. During this time some £7000 has been raised towards club funds, with a similar amount being paid out as prize money. There are twelve draws a year with prize money varying with membership.
Costs of running a Cricket Club continue to rise and, despite increasing match fees and annual subscriptions over the years, the Club is still dependant on various fund raising activities to remain solvent. The 100 Club remains an important part of these fund raising activities.
Village cricket is increasingly under threat from changing life styles, lack of cricket in schools, wider sporting opportunities for young people and work and college pressures. Despite this, Cound continues to run a 1st and 2nd X1 every Saturday throughout the season, an Evening League Team, Youth Teams at Under 13 and Under 16 level and a Youth Coaching night for boys and girls, weekly during the Summer Term.
